SUSTAINABILITY
Caring for the planet, together.
At Hyatt, we’re working every day to create a World of Care—and that includes Caring for the Planet.
We know you also care about the environmental impact of your event, which is why our hotel team will work with you to create an event that is as memorable as it is sustainably focused. Whether you are interested in reducing single-use plastics, minimizing food waste or holding a paperless meeting, there are many ways to integrate sustainable practices within your event.
We look forward to taking positive steps forward together.
Sustainable Events
As part of our Together by Hyatt efforts, we aim to make sustainability a seamless part of your event experience. Grounded in Hyatt's key environmental focus areas and realized through Hyatt’s 2030 Environmental Goals, our World of Care framework connects plans to action as we work to Care for the Planet. Meetings and events are unique opportunities for us to work with you to make an even greater impact.
SUSTAINABILITY AT GRAND HYATT MELBOURNE
Caring for the planet is a natural extension of Hyatt’s purpose —to care for people so they can be their best. At Grand Hyatt Melbourne, we are dedicated to sustainability and are committed to making a difference through our daily processes.
Plus, our hotel is a walkable destination with easy access to public transport. We engage and motivate our fellow colleagues to be Hyatt ambassadors, work with our suppliers to develop and provide innovative products and solutions. Our combined efforts have resulted in EARTHCHECK SILVER certification which is a badge of honour and our hotel's commitment to environmental and sustainable practices.
CLIMATE CHANGE & WATER CONSERVATION
- Energy efficient LED lighting is used throughout our hotel
- Guest room’s lights and power operate on occupancy-based controls to ensure power and lights do not run in unoccupied rooms
- Lights are only turned on in meeting rooms and guest spaces only when needed
- We track and manage environmental performance using Hyatt EcoTrack, Hyatt's global environmental sustainability software
- Slow flow shower fittings installed in all guest rooms to conserve water
- We encourage our associates and guests to conserve water and report any leaks they may come across
- Through our Conserve program, guests may choose to reuse towels by leaving them hanging
WASTE & CIRCULARITY
- Plastic toothbrushes & combs have been replaced with ones made from biodegradable corn starch
- Guest slippers no longer come in plastic wrapping, now in a cardboard recyclable slip
- We use large-format bathroom amenities to reduce single-use plastic and prevent wasted products
- Plastic straws and takeaway cups are not used. We offer those in compostable paper material
- We replaced plastic bottles with the water jugs for all events
- Food waste collected at the hotel is treated using an offsite compost for garden fertiliser
- We send used hand soap to the Soap Aid program where it is recycled into new soap bars and sent to the communities facing hygiene challenges
RESPONSIBLE SOURCING
Hyatt’s Food. Thoughtfully Sourced. Carefully Served. philosophy guides us in how we select ingredients that are better for people, communities, and the planet.
- We collaborate with suppliers to increase responsible sourcing of products and services and strive to address impact areas such as climate change, deforestation, human rights, waste, public health, resource scarcity, biodiversity and animal welfare
- Cage-free eggs are used in our restaurant Collins Kitchen
- Our produce is purchased locally
- We sponsor x2 Melbourne bee hives (rescue bees) to support bee preservation in Victoria
